T60 or T70: Which Stage Track Do You Need?

Choosing the right stage track is essential when designing a curtain system for a theatre, studio, school, exhibition space or large commercial building. The track needs to support the weight of the curtain, accommodate the length of the run and provide reliable movement, whether operated by hand or motorised.

Hall Stage manufactures two heavy-duty curtain track systems designed to meet a wide range of requirements: T60 and T70.

Both systems offer strength, flexibility and a comprehensive range of components. However, they are designed with different applications in mind. So, which one is right for your project?

What is the difference between T60 and T70?

The main difference is the level of duty each system is designed to handle.

T60 is the versatile all-rounder, suitable for many heavy-duty curtain installations, including stage curtains and lighter scenery.

T70 is the heavier-duty option, designed for particularly large and demanding installations where curtain drops, track lengths or the weight of moving scenery exceed the capabilities of a more conventional system.

The best choice depends on the size of your space, the weight and dimensions of your curtains, and how the system will be operated.

When should you choose T60 stage track?

T60 is a versatile heavy-duty curtain track system suitable for a broad range of applications. It is an excellent choice for installations where a robust, reliable track is required without necessarily needing the additional capacity of T70.

Typical applications include:

  • Theatre and stage curtains.
  • Heavy curtains with drops of up to approximately 10 metres.
  • Lighter-weight scenery movement.
  • Straight and overlapped curtain runs of around 20 metres.
  • Perimeter tracks and other layouts where curtains are pulled by hand.

One of the advantages of T60 is its flexibility. Although approximately 20 metres is a useful guide for straight or overlapped installations, longer runs can be achieved in suitable configurations, particularly on perimeter layouts where the curtain is manually operated.

T60 can also be curved, making it suitable for installations that require the curtain to follow the shape of a room, stage or performance area.

For projects requiring powered operation, T60 can be motorised and paired with an appropriate drive and control system. It also supports reverse-curved layouts when motorised, a feature that makes it particularly useful for more complex track arrangements.

If you need a heavy-duty track for a conventional stage curtain, a school hall, a performance space or a more specialised installation involving lighter scenery, T60 is often the ideal starting point.

When should you choose T70 stage track?

T70 is designed for applications where a more substantial track system is required.

It is particularly suited to heavyweight curtains with drops exceeding 10 metres and track runs longer than 20 metres. These larger installations can place considerable demands on the track, its supporting structure and the system used to move the curtain.

Typical applications include:

  • Very large stage and masking curtains.
  • Heavyweight curtains with drops exceeding 10 metres.
  • Long track runs exceeding 20 metres.
  • Heavy scenery movement.
  • Large film and television studios.
  • Aircraft hangars and other industrial spaces requiring extensive masking or division.

In film studios and aircraft hangars, for example, curtains may be used to divide enormous spaces, conceal equipment or create separate working areas. The scale of these installations makes the choice of track particularly important.

T70 provides a solution for these more demanding environments, where the size and weight of the curtain system call for a heavier-duty approach.

If your project involves exceptionally large curtains, long runs or the movement of substantial scenery, T70 is well worth considering.

The dimensions above are general application guidelines rather than guaranteed maximum limits. The appropriate system depends on curtain weight, track layout, supports, operating method and the requirements of the individual installation.

Can T60 and T70 be motorised?

Yes. Both systems can be motorised, making them suitable for installations where curtains need to move regularly, reliably and with minimal manual handling.

Where curtains change frequently, motorised drives and controllers can reduce handling time and provide repeatable movement. This is particularly useful in theatres, studios and other venues where curtains are moved as part of a production or operational routine.

Hall Stage offers a range of motor and winch options to suit different track systems and operating requirements.

Explore the available options:

The appropriate drive depends on factors including the curtain’s weight, the length and configuration of the track, the required movement and the intended control method.

Both T60 and T70 also have a comprehensive range of fixings and components, helping to create a system suited to the installation rather than forcing the installation to fit a standard arrangement.

What about curved and perimeter track layouts?

Not every curtain needs to travel along a straight line.

Both T60 and T70 can be curved, allowing the track to follow architectural features, stage layouts or the perimeter of a room. This makes them useful for applications ranging from conventional stage masking to large-scale space division.

T60 has an additional advantage where a motorised system needs to incorporate reverse curves. This can provide greater flexibility when designing more complex curtain routes.

Perimeter installations can also allow longer overall track runs than a simple straight or overlapped arrangement, particularly when curtains are pulled by hand. However, the suitability of any layout needs to be assessed in relation to the curtain, its operating method and the proposed supports.

For more complex installations, it is worth discussing the proposed layout with the Hall Stage team before specifying the system.

Technical information and testing

When selecting a heavy-duty curtain track, it is important to consider more than the nominal track size. Curtain weight, runner performance, fixing arrangements, support spacing and the intended operating method all contribute to the suitability of the complete system.

Hall Stage provides technical information to help with the specification process, including:

For a particular project, consult the relevant technical documentation and confirm the proposed installation requirements with Hall Stage.

So, which track should you choose?

As a general guide, choose T60 for versatility and T70 for more demanding, heavyweight applications.

Every installation is different, however. The most suitable choice will depend on the complete system, not simply the curtain dimensions.
